Regional Commissions Boost Economic Development

During a recent congressional hearing, multiple federal regional commissions, including the Delta Regional Authority (DRA), the Denali Commission, and others, convened to discuss their efforts in enhancing economic development in disadvantaged communities. Established as federal-state partnerships, these commissions aim to implement strategies that bolster community and economic development since the 1960s. With a vision to create a nurturing environment for job creation, the commissions have made significant strides in addressing infrastructure improvements and workforce development. Witnesses from the DRA, Denali Commission, Northern Border Regional Commission, Southeast Crescent Regional Commission, and Southwest Border Regional Commission shared success stories demonstrating the effectiveness of their work. These commissions have utilized bipartisan infrastructure law funding to support over 300 projects across 19 states, addressing various regional challenges from healthcare access to housing crises. They aim to leverage federal and local resources efficiently, ensuring the growth of resilient communities.
