Chinese Athletes & Secret Doping Allegations

Chinese swimmer Tang Muhan, who competed in the 200m freestyle relay and won in Tokyo, tested positive for a banned steroid with another athlete, He Jun, in 2022. Despite this, their suspension and hearing were conducted secretly by the Chinese anti-doping agency. China claimed the contamination came from eating hamburgers during a training camp, and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) couldn't disprove this, allowing them to compete. This event is part of a pattern, as 23 other Chinese swimmers tested positive for a heart drug, and a few years before, there was a similar case involving Clenbuterol. WADA has repeatedly accepted China's explanations without public disclosure until investigative reporting brought these issues to light. Thus, Tang is allowed to compete in Paris despite suspicions of doping.
