Bomb Threats Target Jewish Organizations in Canada

This morning, police services across Canada, including RCMP in Ottawa, Montreal, and Toronto, were notified of bomb threats sent to various Jewish institutions. These threats were reported at around 5:00 AM, with the Hamstead synagogue among those targeted in Montreal. The threats specified that bombs were placed in the buildings, leading to evacuations and security sweeps at the locations. According to Anthony Housefather, MP and federal special adviser on Jewish relations, this rise in threats reflects a disturbing trend of anti-Semitism visible since the start of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict last October. Despite investigations, police have yet to determine whether the threats originated from domestic or foreign actors. In the wake of this disturbing trend, Housefather revealed that the Jewish community has felt frustrated by the lack of government action in combatting hate crimes. Many institutions benefitted from federal security programs, yet the fear and emotional toll on community members remain high. The investigation is ongoing, with local law enforcement collaborating closely with the RCMP to identify and prosecute those responsible for these threats against the Jewish community.
